MORAL VALUES AND IMPACT I GOT FROM THE SHORT STORY SINIGANG

Marie Aubrey J. Villaceran wrote the short story entitled “Sinigang” in 2001, and it tells the story of Liza, the main character, dealing with the issue of her father having an extramarital affair with Sylvia and having a son, Lem, as a result.

We all made mistakes in life because we are all humans, but for liza, no matter how many mistakes others commit of have made with her, she does not harbor resentment in her heart. She accepted everything, including the thing that could destroy their family. For Liza, family matters and more important than anger, and forgiveness is the path to happiness and a peaceful living.

MORAL VALUES FROM THE STORY

I have learned from this short story is to learn to forgive someone who commits a mistake from you, rather than being angry and resent them for all of your life, we should learn to forgive them and embrace them. Because forgiving is the key to have a peaceful mind and have no regrets in life. No matter how huge the mistakes are that is commit to you, we should still forgive them but it doesn’t mean that they didn’t commit that mistake, even though you forgive them they should still be responsible of their actions and learn from their mistakes for they can use this as a tool in their future actions. Furthermore, everyone makes a mistake in life. Everyone is imperfect to make things perfectly. The lessons we have learned from what mistake we have commit in our life is the weapon we can use to apply it in our lives for we cannot repeat it again and commit the same mistake. Being honest to your family is also a key for misunderstanding. We should be more open to our family member, whether the problem is that big, family can always fix it. Showing respect, being strong and forgiving each other are means of a strong foundation among family members. Lastly, forgiving yourself can heal your wounds from those hurtful mistakes committed to you. Sometimes we are a student in our daily life who can learn something new in every path we are taking with. It’s a part of our life to commit mistakes, but how can we live a peaceful life if we can’t forget or forgive ourselves of what we have commit from the past? Mistakes are always there, and we can learn from it. We can grow and change the way we think towards ourselves. So, forgiving ourselves can ease our minds to have a peaceful life and since you are still learning and growing, you need to move on and live our life to the fullest.

IMPACT TO ME AS A 21ST CENTURY LEARNER

As a 21st century learner, the story “SINIGANG” had a profound impact on how I perceive the true nature of life. Life is not that easy, and in life nothing is perfect and easy, it always hard. We face challenges and obstacles along the way of our path as we keep on growing. By this path we can apply the things we have learned from this journey of your life, particularly when it comes to our family. We all have different family status but this doesn’t mean that we can’t be happy in our lives. We can create or improve our versions in life to fit in, in the way of what we think will make us better. Everyone makes a mistake and everyone deserves to be forgiven, so we must learn how to forgive like how GOD forgive us to all of our sins. Every one of us is like the taste of sinigang, we are all unique human beings no matter who we are and where we from. It might be sour at the first time but as you get to it, the taste will change.
